BaByliss 2098BU Elegance Review

Welcome to our BaByliss Pro 230 Elegance review – a first look at the successor to last years award winning flagship hair straightener.
I've never been a pushover for appearances, but the new Babybliss 2098BU hair straightener looks elegant, sleek, and simply gorgeous. I’ll get to the mechanics later. The carrying pouch that comes with the Babyliss 2098BU is quite stunning. Both the pouch and the straightener are an identical metallic pink color. The pouch is adorned with a touch of satin fabric sewn down the middle. To be honest, I can see the pouch as an elegant dress accessory for a nice evening out on the town. A few small essentials, like a cell phone, lipstick, and a small mirror, will fit perfectly including a few other necessities.

Then again, we can’t determine a products’ functionality by their appearance alone. If it were so, the new Babybliss 2098BU would win hands down just for “looking good.” However, we have to get down to business. Does the Babybliss 2098BU hair straightener really do the job? Let’s look at a brief synopsis of the Babybliss 2098BU mechanics.
- Its ready to go in only 15 seconds! This means super fast heating time, and great for emergency hair faux pas.
- There are three heating settings. The highest setting is at 230degrees Celsius with the lowest being 180degrees Celsius. A medium heat of 200degress Celsius gives this straightener a pretty good range for every hair type. Furthermore, the temperature is sustained all the while you’re using it.
- The three-meter swivel cord is a blessing. How many times have you had to twist and turn the straightener in various acrobatic positions just to get to specific parts of your hair?
- The plates are longer as well, which to me, is fantastic to enable you to achieve a satiny, smooth finish.
- A five-year guarantee doesn’t hurt either. In my opinion, that shows how much faith the manufacturer has in their product.
The Babybliss 2098BU allows you get your look just right with a professional finish. Not only will your hair look great, but you save on salon expenses too. With a temperature reaching 230 degrees Celsius, not Fahrenheit mind you, users better be careful or you may find yourself with a head full of singed hair. The Babybliss 20908BU is not a toy, it’s a serious hair straightener that means business.
One other significant selling point of the new Babyliss, is the titanium ceramic plates that slide through the hair, in addition to the ionic conditioning technology that lets your hair stay free of frizz. When all’s said and done, we don’t have to be concerned with those tiny electric shocks, or static electricity, that comes as the result of contact with various entities in the home, office, or wherever you feel the need to give your hair a make-over. Actually, static electricity can be a real pain, leaving hair dull and giving it that “fly-away” look as if you made no effort to tame it. According to the manufacturer; “static activity is balanced by the flow of negative ions. In return, this softens the scales on the hair, making it more manageable and easier to style.” In consumer jargon, this means that “you can get your hair just the way you want it.” Some people may differ on which is more important when in a hurry, the hair or the face. In other words, if you’re in a hurry which one would you go for first? Most would probably go for the face, and throw a scarf, hat or headband on their hair. However, with the new Babyliss2098BU ever so “quick on the draw,” finally we can do our faces and give our hair a good tending to as well.
There’s an extra item that comes with the Babybliss 2098BU besides the lovely pouch; a heat mat. Finding a place to set a hot ceramic straightener is an exercise in itself. The heat mat is truly fitting. Any surface is securely protected. I’m sure, that many of us have been startled by a melting object due to our unpredicted carelessness. Or perhaps, a ruined hair straightener is the result, due to it being abandoned in the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the wrong mode. Literally, an all around mess if we’re not prudent with hot objects, hair straighteners included. Its so clever of Babybliss to add such a thoughtful item. It really does complete the whole package.
Are there any negatives to the Babybliss 2098BU? None that I can think of. Its not a GHD, but it works just as well and cost half the price! Then again, the price. The Babybliss 2098BU is easily affordable. Not bad for a product that can give professional results at home. Compared to other top-of-the-line straighteners, Babybliss has pushed itself up to the front of the queue with the 2098BU model.
The Babybliss 2098BU is a combination of fashion and functionality. The metallic finish, size of the ceramic plates, along with the pouch and heat mat, gives this straightener a sophisticated appeal that even the Queen of England would be proud to carry. The curved design has a stylish attractiveness that also gives it a modern appearance. My verdict is that the Babybliss 2098BU is a sound investment. Considering the five-year warranty, there’s no way to go wrong, whichever way you look at it.
Update: We have awarded the BaByliss Pro 230 2098BU our "Hair Straightener of the year award!", beating tough competition from GHD, Remington and Mark Hill.
We have also reviewed the companion to this, the BaByliss 5560GU Elegance Hair Dryer.
